My current skin care routine

Hey, friends! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! I got to catch up with a good friend of mine and we did a little shopping and dinner. Self care! Speaking of self care… I wanted to share with you guys some of my HOLY GRAIL products that I have been obsessing over lately, as well as a run through of my current skin care routine. This past year has wreaked havoc on my skin. Between pregnancy, breastfeeding, my diet & trying to stay hydrated at all costs, it’s been a doozy! I have VERY sensitive skin, like the most bitchy skin you could ever imagine. With that in mind, I have to be VERY cautious when trying or adding any new products into my routine. I tend to stick to mostly clean products. The reason being, our skin is a major organ, and we need to treat it as such! Have I always done this?? Heck no! I am ashamed of myself for how I once upon of time used to treat my skin.

Thank the skin care God’s for redeeming me of my awful, sinful skin habits! HAHA! Mostly, I suffer from dry skin. With the winter months thankfully behind us, I tend to be more on the combination side. I do occasionally still get those strange dry patches in the summer, so I do try to keep my skin balanced and moisturized. If you are going to anything for your skin regularly, it’s going to be to make sure you cleanse, tone and moisturize, morning and night! NUMBER ONE!!! So, to get into those steps, I am going to share with you what products I have really been LOVING!!!

When it comes to cleansers, I need something that is going to help get my dry skin in check, but also strip away all of the gross stuff from the day! I have two favorites that I switch back and fourth with. The last few months, I have fallen deeply in love with Tula’s Purifying Cleanser packed with probiotics . I have noticed a huge difference in the redness that I tend to get in my skin. My skin is brighter, softer and incredibly moisturized! Bottom line is, this stuff blew me away!! Hands down my favorite day and night cleanser! I will alternate between that one and my trusty old faithful, Soy Face Cleanser by Fresh! Its another one of those moisturizing cleansers and is even safe for removing eye makeup. It does not cause me to be oily and it smells like a spa day, clean and refreshing! Oh, it’s also packed with amino acids! WIN! At night time (especially if I wore makeup that day) I use Dermalogica’s Pre Cleanser. It’s a special oil that I rub all over my face, and then wet my fingertips a tiny bit, and it removes the surface layer of makeup and toxins from the day. I rinse that off and THEN I use my cleanser of choice. Voila, skin is thoroughly cleansed!

Next, we TONE! Toners can be tricky for me. I have tried a bunch of them! They tend to accentuate my dryness almost always. Never fear, I found a GREAT one, along with some fantastic contenders. Number one, you ask? Fresh’s Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner!!! It’s my favorite and I honestly don’t think I will ever stop purchasing it. I am actually almost needing another new bottle. It’s that good! I think it won an award for best of beauty with Allure (side note). I use my hands and gently push or dab it into my skin. It smells sooo light and fresh. I like to use that one every morning. I switch it up sometimes when I get more redness than usual, with Origin’s Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience soothing lotion. It works as an AWESOME toner and calms down my angry red skin. At night, I have been using a resurfacing gel. Its Tula’s Pro-Glycolic pH resurfacing gel. This just resurfaces the skin and lightly (AND I MEAN LIGHTLY) exfoliates the skin’s surface. Another great resurfacing serum I use, is Farmacy’s Honeymoon glow. This one is a bit more intense at first. It took me a good three days to get used to the tingly sensation, but after that my skin adored it!

Lastly, give your thirty skin a drink! Moisturizer! I used to be that girl, who only used Cereve. My dermatologist told me, it would be the best moisturizer for my skin, so I obviously did what she told me. However, I always felt like it wasn’t doing anything amazing for me. It’s sooo thick and I still had major dryness. SO.. I experimented, and once again found another holy grail. Can you guess by who?? FRESH! (I’m serious ya’ll, their line is incredible) It’s their Rose Deep Hydration Face cream. Say it with me, “Moisturizes and Nourishes”. This is what is says on the label, and boy does it ever! I love it! I have recently also been trying out Tula’s Day & night cream. I like to use that one occasionally in the mornings. I’m pretty sure it’s packed with vitamin c, and that’s excellent for the day time!

Now that you know my 3 most important steps to my skin care routine, let’s talk SPF, serums and keeping our skin as wrinkle free as possible. Because, well..Mother nature!

First, SPF! You guys, this is SOOOOOO important! Yes, I used to be one of those chicks that would say “It’s not even that sunny out”, or it would be raining and I would say, “Nope!” I couldn’t have been more wrong. SPF is the stronger than you know warrior for your skin, that protects it from harmful UV rays. Wearing it every day, saves your skin from years of visible damage later on. AKA: PREMATURE AGING! Ughhh, that scares me! HAHA! Anyways, I really hated it before. I guess because one, I was lazy and two, I never found one I loved that didn’t leave the dreaded white film over my skin or break me out. I tried a few that actually broke me out in hives. Like, literal hives! I couldn’t leave my house. I don’t know what was going on. I finally found cleaner options, that didn’t do this to me. I love Tatcha’s Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen SPF 35! I used it as a primer to my makeup too. I actually recently just bought another amazing one by Drunk Elephant. Honestly, I love it more than Tatcha’s! It’s Drunk Elephant’s Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense, SPF 30! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! I apply this after I cleanse and tone and before I put on my actual moisturizer. A little goes a long way, and I have a feeling it’s going to last me awhile. I was inspired to buy this after I saw a friend purchased it and spoke about it on her blog. (Shout out to Sammy Matos) She was sooo right. It’s amazing! Sheer coverage, invisible and my skin feels so smooth. Remember, always wear your sunscreen!

Lastly, but certainly not least! Serums! Right now, I am only using two serums. It’s simple. One for day, and one for night! I always use a vitamin C serum in the morning. It gives your skin energy and it also helps protects against pollutants. I had some rough go arounds with Vitamin C serums recently. Be careful when trying out new ones, because they can be strong! One that I really like using is by Mario Bedescu. It’s actually pretty inexpensive! I make sure to moisturize directly after I apply this serum. At night time, I use a tinnnnyyy bit of a retinol serum. If you suffer from redness like I do, and you are sensitive prone, use with caution. The only one that works for me at the moment, is Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Oil. It has a tad bit of retinol in it, as well as blue tansy, which actually helps cancel out any redness. I wasn’t expecting anything amazing from this product when I started buying it, because there wasn’t any reviews yet for it. I ended up being blown away by it. After like 2 weeks of regular use, my fine lines started to diminish and my pores started to shrink. I wont ever give this product up! I use it after I cleanse and tone at night, and directly before I put my moisturizer on. After putting serums on my skin, I like to take either my Jade roller or my Nurse Jamie roller, and gently roll the product into the skin. (Side note: For the morning time, I like to leave my rollers in the freezer overnight. Helps to tighten the pores and give my skin a little wake up call)

Once a week, I exfoliate my skin really well! I use the Fresh Sugar Face polish. It’s incredible! It gives me a really good exfoliation and the day after, my skin is as smooth as a babies bottom!

That’s it! That is every step of my day and night skin care routine. I hope you have enjoyed it!

Great recommendations! Iโ€™m more of a BB cream kind of person. Saves so much time when I literally have 5 mins before Iโ€™m running out the door the bring kids to school, etc. Iโ€™ve been using Shakleeโ€™s 5 in one beauty balm with SPF 30. Its tinted and has some coverage but not too thick. A bit pricey but it lasts forever. Are there any BB Creams that you use?
